Piotr Kabaj

Piotr Kabaj is an experienced CEO with a demonstrated history of working in the music industry. He began his professional career in 1987 as an advisor to the Prime Minister in the Consultative Economic Council. From then until today, he has been involved in building a modern music industry in Poland and worldwide. From 1990 to 1995, he co-founded and managed the music company “Pomaton.” From 1995 to 2013, he held the position of chairman and MD of EMI Music Poland, and from 2008 to 2013, he additionally served as the CEO of EMI Music Eastern Europe. When Warner Music Group acquired part of EMI Music, from 2013 to 2019, he was the Chairman and MD of Warner Music Poland and the CEO of Warner Music Eastern Europe. From 2019 to 2021, he co-founded and was the CEO of the startup Closer Music. In 2022, he advised the company Believe in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. In 1991, he co-founded and from 1991 to 2019 served as the vice chairman of the Board of the Association of Audio Video Producers (ZPAV). He successfully lobbied for copyright laws in the Polish Sejm and the European Parliament multiple times. From 2019 to 2022, he was a member of the Board of the Music Export Poland Foundation. In November 2023, he became the CEO of Takt – one of the world’s leading producers of vinyl records and CDs. He will be one of the lecturers of postgraduate studies at our university, entitled “Unique knowledge about the music industry”. He is a graduate of the University of Warsaw and Stanford University in California (Faculty of Economic Sciences).

Description of the workshop

„Ethics and value catalogue in business, a case study based on the music industry”

The workshop was based on specific examples from the music industry, and it aimed to try to address the fundamental question: “Is it worth being honest in the music business?” as well as to describe the values that an individual working with artists in the music business should represent.
The students enjoyed the event and were impressed by the speaker’s experience in the music business. They asked many questions regarding management and ethics in business.
