As one of Poland’s most international universities, we support the cultures and traditions of our foreign students. The academic community at VIZJA University includes over 200 people of Kyrgyz origin. On Sunday, August 31st, we hosted the Kyrgyz Diaspora in Poland on our campus to celebrate Kyrgyzstan Independence Day.
VIZJA University: Open to World Cultures
Celebrating national holidays, such as Kyrgyzstan’s Independence Day, is incredibly important for communities living abroad. These events strengthen a sense of unity, help preserve cultural identity, and allow young people to connect with the history and traditions of their homeland. Because Poland’s Independence Day is also so important to us, we were even more eager to support this initiative.
Tradition and Celebration: The Event on Campus
Over 200 guests attended the event at VIZJA University’s campus in Warsaw. The program was filled with numerous attractions that gave participants a taste of the rich Kyrgyz culture. These included:
- Sports demonstrations: Traditional Kyrgyz wrestling and arm wrestling.
- Artistic performances: National dances and folk music concerts, including performances on the komuz, a characteristic Kyrgyz instrument.
- A shared feast: A tasting of traditional pilaf.
- Handicraft fair: An opportunity to purchase original jewelry and headwear.
The celebration began with the singing of the Kyrgyz national anthem, and many participants proudly showcased their national costumes. The event was led by Mr. Askar Osmonovich, President of the “Kyrgyz Diaspora in Poland” Association, who presented commemorative awards to the participants at the end.
A Family Atmosphere and Unity Beyond Borders
We are happy we could be a part of this special family day, so important to the Kyrgyz community in Poland. Our university remains open to similar initiatives that build bridges between cultures.
