About Preparatory English Language Course
The VIZJA University offers a comprehensive 9-month Preparatory English Language Course designed for international students who wish to begin their academic studies in Poland.
The program provides intensive training in all four language skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing, ensuring students achieve a minimum B2 level of proficiency according to the CEFR scale, enabling them to start studies at the VIZJA University.
- Entry requirement: Minimum A2 level of English (proven by a certificate or confirmed during a placement test).
- Applicants with a lower level of English may enroll in Introductory Online English Courses, available fully online, to prepare for the preparatory program.
- Location: On-campus, VIZJA University in Warsaw (some classes will be held online)
- Duration: 9 months
Course Objectives and Goals
Upon successful completion, participants will receive an official Certificate of Completion, confirming their language competence and granting them direct eligibility to start studies at the VIZJA University.
This course is an excellent opportunity for students to strengthen their English skills, adapt to an academic environment, and prepare for university-level education in Poland.
Syllabus Outline
The course is structured into thematic modules designed to systematically develop the four key language skills required for academic study: listening, reading, speaking, and writing.
Module 1 – Foundations of Academic English (Weeks 1–8)
- Review and consolidation of grammar structures (A2–B1 level)
- Development of basic academic vocabulary
- Guided reading of short academic texts
- Listening comprehension exercises (lectures, dialogues)
- Introduction to structured speaking (short presentations, discussions)
- Writing simple academic texts (paragraphs, short essays)
Module 2 – Intermediate Academic Communication (Weeks 9–16)
- Expansion of academic vocabulary (discipline-related terminology)
- Reading comprehension of authentic texts (articles, case studies)
- Listening to longer academic lectures and note-taking practice
- Speaking practice: discussions, debates, problem-solving tasks
- Writing: essays, summaries, and structured reports
- Grammar and accuracy workshops
Module 3 – Advanced Academic Skills (Weeks 17–24)
- Critical reading and text analysis
- Advanced listening: academic debates, conference talks
- Oral communication: delivering individual and group presentations
- Writing: argumentative and research-based essays
- Vocabulary building for academic writing and formal style
- Preparation for B2-level assessment
Module 4 – Examination Preparation and University Integration (Weeks 25–36)
- Intensive practice of all four skills under exam conditions
- Mock tests at B2 level (CEFR)
- Focus on fluency and accuracy in oral communication
- Extended essay writing (2–3 pages)
- Study skills: referencing, academic integrity, teamwork
- Orientation workshops: adapting to life and study at the University of VIZJA
Assessment
- Continuous assessment (class participation, assignments, tests)
- Mid-term and final exams (listening, reading, writing, speaking)
- Final Certificate of Completion awarded upon successful passing of the B2-level exam.
