The Foreign Language Centre is responsible in particular for:
- teaching foreign languages as part of language courses (for all programmes except philological studies);

- organizing international English language examinations (Cambridge English and PEIC).
Foreign Language Study and Completion Pathways at VIZJA University
Students whose study programme requires completion of a foreign language course can choose one of four pathways. The choice depends on the student’s preferences and on language certificates already held.
Each pathway requires participation in a placement test.
PATHWAY 1. Classes with an Instructor + Final WEK Examination (Internal Final Examination) or Cambridge English Examination or PEIC Examination
This pathway is intended for students who wish to study a foreign language in the traditional format with an instructor. First, the student takes a placement test, which determines the appropriate proficiency group. The student then attends classes, completes each semester according to the instructor’s requirements and syllabus, and in the year when the final language course semester takes place, sits for the WEK final examination.
Pathway Summary:
Placement Test → Group Assignment → Classes with Instructor → Semester Completions → Selection of WEK Examination Variant → Final Examination → Grade Entry
PATHWAY 2. E-learning (NAVOICA) + Final WEK Examination (Internal Final Examination)
This pathway is intended for students who wish to learn English independently online. The student completes an e-learning course on the NAVOICA platform consisting of modules and tests. Each module must be passed with a minimum score of 85%. After completing the entire course, the student becomes eligible to take the mandatory WEK final examination.
The examination may be taken at BASIC level (grade 3.0) or ADVANCED level (higher grade). One regular examination date and two resit opportunities are available.
Pathway Summary:
Placement Test → Pathway Selection → Access to NAVOICA Course → Completion of Modules → Minimum 85% Score → Course Completion → Eligibility for WEK → Examination → Grade Entry
PATHWAY 3. External Certificate (Without WEK Examination)
This pathway is intended for students who already possess a language certificate at minimum B2 level (Bachelor’s studies) or minimum B2+ level (Master’s studies) . Such students may complete the English language requirement without attending classes and without taking the WEK examination. Applies to the following languages: English, German, Italian, French and Spanish.
To obtain credit, the student must submit an application through the university system (to the Certification Officer) and attach a scanned copy of the certificate no later than 14 days before the beginning of the examination session. After successful verification, the student receives credit for the foreign language course.
Pathway Summary:
Placement Test → Possession of Certificate → Application Submission → Verification → Decision → Record Entry → Course Completion
PATHWAY 4. Cambridge English or PEIC Examination
This pathway is intended for students who wish to complete their English language requirement at B2 or B2+ level by passing an international Cambridge English or PEIC examination organized by VIZJA University.. The examination is subject to a fee and replaces the WEK examination.
Upon passing the examination, the student receives:
- credit for the foreign language course;
- an internationally recognized language certificate.
Examinations are held on dates announced by the Foreign Language Centre and may also be organized during the semester. The final possible examination date is established in such a way as to allow students to graduate on time.
Pathway Summary:
Placement Test → Registration → Fee Payment → Cambridge/PEIC Examination → Result → Grade Conversion → Record Entry → Language Course Completion
Which Pathway Should You Choose? Questions and Answers
PATHWAY 1 Classes with an Instructor + Final WEK Examination
1. What does this pathway involve?
This pathway consists of regular participation in English language classes conducted by an instructor, successful completion of all language course semesters (four semesters), and subsequently taking the Internal Final Foreign Language Examination (WEK).
The WEK examination confirms the achievement of learning outcomes at:
- B2 level for Bachelor’s studies;
- B2+ level for Master’s and long-cycle Master’s studies.
2. Who is this pathway intended for?
This pathway is intended for students who:
- do not possess a recognized language certificate;
- do not wish to choose the e-learning pathway;
- do not choose the Cambridge examination pathway;
- wish to study English in the traditional classroom format.
This is the standard way of completing the foreign language requirement at the University.
3. Do I have to take a placement test before classes begin?
Yes. You must take a placement test in the semester when language courses begin according to the study programme, as its purpose is to assign you to a group corresponding to your current language proficiency level.
The placement test is not a final examination and does not replace completion of language courses. Its sole purpose is to ensure you begin learning in a group suited to your abilities.
4. What happens after the placement test?
After the placement test, you are assigned to an appropriate language course group.
The Foreign Language Centre is responsible for organizing language course registration and assigning students to groups.
5. Who determines the class schedule?
The class schedule, semester completion requirements, and organization of classes are determined by the Head of the Foreign Language Centre.
You should regularly follow announcements issued by the Foreign Language Centre and information published on the university website.
6. How is the language course completed during studies?
You attend classes according to the schedule. In each semester, you must meet the requirements specified by the instructor and outlined in the syllabus. In practice, this usually includes:
- attending classes;
- completing assignments indicated by the instructor;
- passing tests, coursework, or activities specified in the syllabus;
- obtaining semester credit.
Successful completion of consecutive language course semesters is required to continue on this pathway.
7. Is completing all semesters sufficient?
No.
Completing all language course semesters does not conclude the pathway.
After finishing the required semesters, you must take the WEK Final Examination, which verifies the achievement of foreign language learning outcomes.
8. When should I take the WEK examination?
You should take the WEK examination during the academic year in which your final language course semester is scheduled.
This means that you must first complete all required classes and semesters before taking the final examination.
9. What is the WEK examination?
WEK is the University’s Internal Final Foreign Language Examination.
Its purpose is to verify whether students have achieved the required level:
- B2 – Bachelor’s programmes;
- B2+ – Master’s and long-cycle Master’s programmes.
10. May I take the examination more than once?
Yes.
You are entitled to:
- one regular examination date,
- one first resit date,
- one second resit date.
These rules follow the general examination regulations specified in the Study Regulations.
11. Will I receive a language certificate after passing WEK?
No.
The WEK examination is an internal university examination and does not result in an external language certificate.
12. By when must I pass WEK?
You must pass the WEK examination no later than the deadline that permits participation in the diploma examination.
The final permitted WEK date (the second resit) must take place no later than seven days before the last diploma examination session.
13. Who records the credits and grades in the system?
Credits for individual language course semesters and the WEK examination result are entered into the university system according to procedures adopted by the Foreign Language Centre.
The Head of the Foreign Language Centre supervises the organization of classes, documentation, WEK examinations, and the timely approval of examination records.
14. What if I fail one of the language course semesters?
If you fail a semester, follow the procedures established by the instructor, the Foreign Language Centre, and the Study Regulations.
As a rule, failure to complete the required semesters may prevent you from taking the final WEK examination within this pathway.
15. Can I change my pathway after selecting it?
Yes, but not without restrictions.
You can apply to change your selected pathway in justified circumstances. The decision is made by the relevant Dean.
16. Who should choose this pathway?

Successful completion of all course modules is a prerequisite for admission to the WEK examination.
Failure to complete even part of the course prevents you from proceeding to the final WEK examination.
9. Does the e-learning course complete the pathway?
No.
The e-learning course is only a preparatory stage.
After completing it, you must take the WEK examination.

If the examination is scheduled during the official examination session, participation is mandatory.
17. By when must I pass the examination?
You must pass the examination by a deadline that allows participation in the diploma examination.
The final available examination date is no later than 14 days before the diploma examination session.
18. Who supervises this pathway?
Responsibility lies with:
- the E-learning Education Coordinator – responsible for course implementation, WEK examination organization, and documentation.
19. What if I fail the course?
If you:
- do not achieve 85%,
- do not pass the modules,
- do not complete the course,
you will not be admitted to the WEK examination.
