Senior Institute

Mission of the Senior Institute

The mission of the Senior Institute is to comprehensively prepare students for the new reality that awaits them after graduation – the Silver Economy.
VIZJA University is the first university in Poland to implement the concept of TEACHING GERIATRICS TO EVERYONE IN THE SYSTEM – we will teach approaches to aging to both preschool children and undergraduate and postgraduate students.

As part of the Senior Institute’s activities, the concepts of HEALTHY AGING and SILVER ECONOMY will be developed.

The tasks of the Institute for Seniors also include:

  • creating new standards for senior care, including educational standards for preparing all generations for old age.
  • training caregivers for the elderly.
  • developing new directions for postgraduate education.
  • conducting research and development work aimed at developing solutions that can be implemented in the healthcare system.
  • collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders: representatives of the scientific community, entrepreneurs, the public sector, professional and patient self-government organizations, and other non-governmental organizations to conduct interdisciplinary discussions and activities in the area of ​​senior policy in Poland.

Prof. Dr. Hab. Agnieszka Neumann-Podczaska, MD, PhD

Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at VIZJA University, Director of the Institute for Seniors at VIZJA University, Professor in the Geriatrics Laboratory of the Department and Clinic of Palliative Medicine at the Karol Marcinkowski Medical University in Poznań. The only pharmacist in Europe who graduated from the European Academy for Medicine of Aging (EAMA, IUKB Foundation in Switzerland). President of the Polish Society for Pharmaceutical Care, Member of the Board of the Polish Gerontological Society and the European Geriatric Medicine Society, expert of the Pharmaceutical Care Team at the Ministry of Health, and former Director of the National Institute of Geriatrics, Rheumatology and Rehabilitation in Warsaw.

She received the Team Award from the Minister of Health of the Republic of Poland for significant implementation achievements in 2020 in creating Poland’s first Pharmaceutical Care Points in Poznań for people over 70 with severe polypharmacy.

A recipient of the Polish-American Fulbright Commission’s Fulbright Senior Award 2020/2021 – the aim of the six-month scholarship at the University of Kentucky in the USA was to transfer best practices from the United States to Poland, encompassing the role of pharmacist-physician collaboration during the drug treatment process in clinical and outpatient settings. The scholarship resulted in collaboration with numerous clinical institutions, including units of the world’s largest healthcare system – the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs – and the transfer of a clinical pharmacy model to Poland.

A specialist in assessing the appropriateness of pharmacotherapy for older adults, she is the project leader for the Pharmaceutical Care in Geriatrics project, conducted from 2011 to 2016 and funded by the National Science Centre (NCN 405 674340). This project developed Poland’s first proven, effective model of pharmaceutical care in geriatrics. This model formed the basis for the creation of the first Pharmaceutical Care Points in Poland and the draft Regulation of the Ministry of Health on the pilot program of drug reviews.

She is a co-creator of the Criteria for Potentially Inappropriate Pharmacotherapy in Geriatrics, the only drug review tool in Poland dedicated to pharmacists.

She is the author of over 150 scientific articles in national and international journals and a lecturer at conferences and postgraduate courses for pharmacists and physicians.
