Why should I choose this field of study?

Are you intrigued by the culture of North America and want to explore it and learn real-life English at the same time? American Studies as part of the English Philology program at the University of Economics and Human Sciences in Warsaw will enable you to do just that! The program combines intensive development of language competencies with a module devoted to learning about American culture and linguistic diversity. As a result, when you graduate, you will have the language skills to enter the profession of English language specialist, but you will also have additional skills that your potential employers will value.

Because the program is practice-oriented, you will build a philologist’s skillset and develop business skills necessary to run your own business, such as providing language services.

Note: Due to the nature of the program and the international community of students and faculty, the program is conducted in English and is therefore recommended for candidates with at least a B2 language proficiency level.

American Studies – what sets us apart:

  • After graduation, you will be fluent in English, with a focus on the American dialect – also, you will learn a second foreign language (Spanish) at an advanced level.
  • You will gain valuable experience through placement and learn about a variety of job prospects awaiting English and American philologists.
  • Instead of writing an undergraduate thesis, you will complete a community project in a philological or interdisciplinary topic of your choice.
  • You will gain valuable and interesting knowledge of history, culture, or customs of America.
  • You will learn from the best instructors and practitioners.
  • You will study at an exceptional university that is the leader in the Perspektywy University Ranking in the Internationalization category.

American Studies - what can you do after these studies?

After graduating from UEHS with a degree in English Philology with a specialization in American Studies, a wide range of career opportunities will become available to you. Depending on your interests, you can work as:

  • English translator or teacher with in-depth knowledge of the American dialect;
  • employee of international cooperation offices, e.g., in institutions, foundations, universities;
  • intercultural coordination and integration specialist;
  • travel industry employee (pilot, resident, guide, etc.), specializing in tours to the United States and Canada;
  • an independent entrepreneur offering language services to individuals, companies, and businesses.
