Debut at European Shooting Championships! Our student won silver and bronze!

“It was not easy. A lot of participants and strong competition”. – comments Marek Dobrowolski, a first-year Master’s student in Management.

On 13-19.03.2022, the WSPS Hamar 2022 European Championships on the distance of 10M in air shooting for people with disabilities were held in Hamar (Norway).

Our country was represented by 8 competitors. We won 12 medals! This gave us second place in the medal classification of the championships!

AEH student Marek Dobrowolski won two medals: silver in the mixed competition with a clubmate (a two-person team – a man and a woman – shooting in the standing position), and bronze in the team competition (in the lying position). They also set three new Polish records.
“Standing for wheelchair athletes means that you hold both elbows in the air while shooting – you don’t rest them on anything. We shoot at targets 10 metres away” – Marek explains.

This is his second international competition. He says he is satisfied with them – the results allowed him to be on the IPC (International Paralympic Committee) world ranking list in shooting.
“The biggest motivation for me is getting better and better results. And the satisfaction of pleasing my Coach. He immediately saw the potential in me, which I can develop with him” – says Marek.

The ambitious student trains in the shooting section of the CWKS Legia Warsaw club. He has been involved with shooting since December 2017 and tells us that the preparations are both time-consuming and quite expensive. During one training session on an air rifle he fires 140-150 rounds – that’s two boxes of shot per week. The cost of one is 11 euros. He finances it himself.

He has previously trained in other sports: swimming, wheelchair basketball, athletics, CrossFit, dog Frisbee, street running, but it was only when he tried shooting that he realised he had finally found his sport.

Marek is a versatile person – he says he has little time for other things, but he is very fond of photography, and his other hobby is motoring in the broadest sense of the word – car exhibitions, rallies for tuned cars.
